Birthday News

Written on August 20th in Uncategorized

Tomorrow, on the 20th, I turn 34. We’ve had some great preliminary nights, getting ready for the big day. Saturday, a bunch of friends went down to Alexander’s Steak House for dinner, then to Crusen’s new beer garden and then the Recovery Room to finish the evening. Sunday, I joined Rob and Kevin at the TT Races, my first ever. Wow. While I love the tailgating, that hill is a monster. And boy, did I see ever see people that should not be wearing tank tops, let alone jeans and no shirt. But, we had a good time. That night, my dad, aunt, Rob and I went to the Fish House which was spectacular, as usual. Tomorrow, I hope to get my glasses (so I can pass my exam for the renewed drivers license), and hit the pool for a few hours. We’re having a cozy dinner at the Hoffbrau House with Jim, Colleen, Roxy and Greg. This year is all about the new things for Angie. I went to the duck blind draw, the TT Races, probably to the opening day for doves, the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, offered to go to South Dakota for hunting and have absolutely all my stamps to hunt anything possible in Central Illinois. Yep, it’s a new year for me and I’m hoping next year is even better!

The Tree Was Falling…

Written on August 12th in Uncategorized

For the first night since Thursday, Rob, I and the puppies will be sleeping in our bedroom again. Friday, our neighbor made us aware of a hackberry tree that was split during the storm. Considering the tree is on the other side of the creek, about 200 ft tall and huge in diameter, Rob figured that if it fell, it would easily take out the main floor bedrooms and bathroom(I chose not to even look at it so I wouldn’t be consumed with the thought day and night). Saturday morning we had someone come out and give us an estimate. Well, not really an estimate since we knew it had to go ASAP. Because of the tricky location of the tree, we wanted to make sure someone could do it. After we talked about it, he said he and his crew could be here at the end of the week. Ontop of sleeping in the basement with the dogs, we’ve been praying to Mother Nature to hold off on wind and rain until then. This morning, I saw the crew pull up and I nearly sang a song of joy. While it may take at least another day to finish the job, the dangerous part is done and our house is no longer in danger of being crushed. I’m going to say the answer is yes. If a tree falls in the woods, it does make a noise.

Recent Pet Peeves

Written on August 8th in Uncategorized

Here’s a list of a few things that have been bugging me lately:

* The Fruit of the Loom Song…”Daddy was the apple of my eye” it seems to be on ALL the time. Then, when I least expect it, I find out that Walmart has it on a continual loop on their televisions. And we all know how loud those f*****s are.

* I love how companies are now calling on the public to send them their own videos/commercials touting their products or catchphrases. How about just saying, “We want creative ideas that we don’t have to pay for?”

* Why is it that I have to endure the Christian Rock collection commercial or Laurie Metcalf-without makeup-on the verge of tears-begging us to send money to Africa every single time I have the Family Channel on? I mean I thought 7th Heaven was cancelled.

* I super bummed that Walmart is no longer carrying the Grime Boss brand of dust cloths. They’re sooo much cheaper than Swiffer cloths and they work just as well. I would pick up a few boxes everytime I was shopping just so I always had them. All is not lost though since they do have a website.

Life is GOOD!!

Written on August 6th in Uncategorized

After nearly 30 hours, we finally have power again. We’ve never been without power for so long and just to ensure our comfort if it happens again, we’ll be buying a generator this weekend. Small creature comforts like a fan or cell phone charger are completely taken for granted way too often. We are extremely lucky because a) the house stayed at around 77 degrees (or so says the thermostat) b) all the contents of the refrigerator are fine and we still had ice in the freezer and c) everything in the large freezer stayed frozen. And, since we were about the only people we knew without power, everyone we talked to offered us fridge space or a place to crash if it got too warm.

I Was Told My Blog Missed Me…

Written on August 5th in Uncategorized

I keep forgetting my new login password (due to the time Blog Peoria sites were down) and thus, I’ve found it easier to read other blogs, rather than actually write something. Here’s what I’ve been up to:
* Vegas was fun but getting there and home was DRAINING! Our flight was cancelled the night before due to storms and we had to rebook a flight with a layover, which we BARELY made. A huge shout-out to our flight attendants who made sure our transferring flight was waiting for us and hooked us all up with extra bottles of booze for the inconvenience of running from terminal A to terminal D at the Dallas airport. On the return flight home, I completely missed out on the drunk guy they had escorted from the plane. Probably because it was a MIDNIGHT flight.
* Last week, I went to my first duckblind draw (at Rice Lake) and yes, I wore cammo. We didn’t get drawn, but I could see why people like to go. It’s pretty much tailgating with lots of cammo and puppies running around. According to all the regulars, it was only about half as crowded as usual. I still saw a ton of people I knew, so that was fun.
* We’ve been kind of planning on what to do for my birthday and there’s a couple of conflicts. My birthday’s on a Wednesday and that weekend, we have a wedding and the Saturday before, is the Jaycees “Rock the Boat” -so, it looks like I have to make a decision soon.
* Sully’s new bar is coming along and should be opening shortly…That could be an idea for the b-day…
* King Orange is playing this Saturday at Crusen’s and next Friday at Martini’s (We plan to be at both!)
* We’ve had a couple pool parties this summer at Gary’s and they’ve been AWESOME. Mojito’s+water+friends=FUN
* I’m actually getting excited for the Olympics. I’d be happier if they weren’t in China and sixteen police officers weren’t just killed, but hey, that’s just me.
* I went to one heck of a bachelorette party that involved several women “pulling Brittney’s” so that’s something I’ll never forget. Oh, and Rob made the “sucker bouquet” for the party. Robbie Stewart strikes again.
So…Blog, I missed you too and I promise that we’ll be better friends from here on out.

Angie…Your Vegas is Calling…

Written on July 8th in Uncategorized

Thursday, we leave for our summer va-ca to Vegas. I’m the only one (out of five) that has been there before. It should be interesting and funny to see how many casinos we get to see. Our buddy works for a very reputable website and thus, I keep trying to tell everyone that we don’t have time to go to a show. No Time. (insert angry Chinese lady voice) Ummmm, you won’t get that if you’re not from Peoria. Anywhoooo, we’re off to Vegas for a few days and I hope we have the most almostest time. There’s video roulette and blackjack God help us all. I’ll report back when we get home!

Question???????????

Written on July 2nd in Uncategorized

Even though the railroad at Giles/Sheridan/Knoxville hasn’t run in years, do I still need to stop before the tracks? With all the train sounds I’ve been hearing lately, I’ve been freaking out a bit. However, Rob tells me that since the rail hasn’t been active in yesars, I can safely rest there at the red light. I’m thinking there may be a law about that he isn’t considering. Anyone know?

New Toy

Written on June 29th in Uncategorized

Yesterday, I bought my new toy. After Rob spent a couple hundred dollars on new arrows, I thought it was okay to splurge a bit on myself. I bought myself the Nintendo DS Lite. It’s awesome. To be honest, I bought it because I could play Super Mario Bros. which, was my first introduction to video game compulsion. Of course, I had to buy a few more games. And the best game EVER???? Touchmaster. Yep, all the games on the crack boxes at the bars. How freakin’ awesome. I actually had to put the game away since I realized that I go to bars to socialize. “Must Socialize” (insert Frankenstein’s voice). I’m pretty sure I got my dad hooked on it after he played the Wheel of Fortune Game. I’ve never been happier. I’m just hoping Rob doesn’t get bored with his new arrows or I could be in trouble. Super Mario Bros are fightin’ words in this house. I guess I’ll just have to school him on it…

And The Darwin Award Goes To…

Written on June 29th in Uncategorized

The jackasses that live behind the gas station at Sheridan and McClure.
We stopped by The Sports Page after dinner at the Hoffbrau tonight. We saw some friends out front, so we stopped to talk and then noticed the gigantic fireworks being let off. Behind the gas station. Hmmmm, “Is it a good idea to set off fireworks when we live directly behind a gas station?” “Of course, why wouldn’t it be?” Cut to a police car driving by as a ‘Peoria Chiefs’ size firework goes off. Hmmmm…

Rob’s Rant Attack

Written on June 29th in Uncategorized

Warning: Rob’s Rant is purely the work of my loving husband. I may or may not agree with said rant. That said, from time-to-time, Rob get’s a hankering to see his words on this blog. I give to you…Rob’s Rant.

I’ve heard joyous cheers throughout the freedom loving world today. And while I don’t share the unbridled enthusiasm of the many, I do feel damn good. DAMN GOOD!
Ok, why not great? Scalia left a little loop hole that I didn’t like, he said that DC must permit citizens to register handguns. Register? Really? Do I need to register my pen, my voice, my Bible?
If you have no clue what I’m talking about, I’m sorry for you. It’s better if you just go back to watching Hogan Knows Best and leave this to the adults. And for anyone out there who’s ever entertained the idea that it was a collective or militia right?…you can kiss my fat white ass. Smug? Yep, super-smug. Smug like I just won an argument that the sun sets in the west.
Rant Off…deep breath…Happy, Happy…Joy, Joy
Heller is the name, kicking liberal ass is the game. In DC v Heller, the defendant argued that the Washington DC gun ban was unconstitutional. The ban being; no pistols were allowed and all other firearms must be locked up or disassembled. The attorney for DC claimed that the 2nd Amendment was a collective right, a long standing staple of the gun-ban crowd. Basically they think that the prefatory clause “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state” means that the right is granted only to regulated militia units under control of the state. Not so says the court, in a 72 page opinion Justice Scalia artfully quashes every attempt at dissent.
The SCOTUS affirmed that it is an individual right, that banning entire classes of firearms is unconstitutional, that requiring guns to be locked up or disassembled is unconstitutional and that the right exists for “legal purposes such as personal defense.” Personal defense baby. Personal defense from the guy breaking down your door or from the government breaking down your door. None of this namby-pamby “sporting purpose” hunting, target-shooting bullshit. Although I do love hunting an target shooting.
What’s it all really mean? First of all, the folks in DC can unlock their rifles and shotguns, and they can now own pistols. They can legally defend themselves in their own homes, who’d a thunk it? The people in Chicago and the suburbs will be seeing the light of day soon. Several lawsuits attacking those gun bans have been filed already. And courts like the 9th Circus…err Circuit, will no longer be allowed to run slip shard over the Constitution.
For the rest of us, even here in the Republic of South Chicago, not much will change. That’s good because, it’s now harder for the gun-ban freaks to change things. Those goof balls are on their heals today. I just got my daily newsletter from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Yes I get the libtard news letters, I even watch the Lauer in the morning. You gotta keep track of the loonies otherwise they’ll rule the ward.
Anyway I digress, Brady, the newsletter was titled “The Supreme Court Rules, Any Gun, Any Time for Any One”. So, they want people to think that the Court is arming criminals and the insane with machine guns, when the opinion clearly states that felons and the mentally ill are disqualified and the restrictions on machine guns are constitutional. Scare tactics 101, they got caught in a lie and tried to change the subject by saying that the sky is falling, which is another lie. Daily in Chicago said that striking down the cities gun ban would be like throwing out the legal system and reverting to wild west justice where disputes are settled by gunfights in the street-his words not mine. CNN had low angle shots from gun shows and spouted words like automatic, magnum and high capacity. The fear mongers are like chickens with their heads cut off. I can’t even muster my normal distain for these antics, I’m having too much fun watching the show.
I spent a little time yesterday, after the decision, lurking on the liberal web sites like Democrat Underground. You know, gotta keep track of the loonies. Well, spank my ass and call me sunshine, but those guys loved the decision. Not all of them of course but the majority of opinions was very positive. This just goes to show that a very small and very vocal minority wants to tell the rest of us how to live. These are the lemmings who think that the government is there to take care of us, give us free health care, food stamps and send the police when the bad guys come out. Guess what? When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.
I’m going to leave you all with something that past generations took for granted but seem to be lost on a good portion of the current population. The Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution does not grant us anything. We have those rights because we are citizens of the greatest country to every grace this planet. Think of it this way, the Amendments don’t allow anything, they prohibit the government from taking those rights away. The Constitution is not law that we must follow, it’s law that the government must follow. It’s like a line from a little letter that was sent to the King of England on July 4th 1776, “Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Have a very happy and safe Independence Day.
Molon Labe
Rob
