Warning: Rob’s Rant is purely the work of my loving husband. I may or may not agree with said rant. That said, from time-to-time, Rob get’s a hankering to see his words on this blog. I give to you…Rob’s Rant.
I’ve heard joyous cheers throughout the freedom loving world today. And while I don’t share the unbridled enthusiasm of the many, I do feel damn good. DAMN GOOD!
Ok, why not great? Scalia left a little loop hole that I didn’t like, he said that DC must permit citizens to register handguns. Register? Really? Do I need to register my pen, my voice, my Bible?
If you have no clue what I’m talking about, I’m sorry for you. It’s better if you just go back to watching Hogan Knows Best and leave this to the adults. And for anyone out there who’s ever entertained the idea that it was a collective or militia right?…you can kiss my fat white ass. Smug? Yep, super-smug. Smug like I just won an argument that the sun sets in the west.
Rant Off…deep breath…Happy, Happy…Joy, Joy
Heller is the name, kicking liberal ass is the game. In DC v Heller, the defendant argued that the Washington DC gun ban was unconstitutional. The ban being; no pistols were allowed and all other firearms must be locked up or disassembled. The attorney for DC claimed that the 2nd Amendment was a collective right, a long standing staple of the gun-ban crowd. Basically they think that the prefatory clause “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state” means that the right is granted only to regulated militia units under control of the state. Not so says the court, in a 72 page opinion Justice Scalia artfully quashes every attempt at dissent.
The SCOTUS affirmed that it is an individual right, that banning entire classes of firearms is unconstitutional, that requiring guns to be locked up or disassembled is unconstitutional and that the right exists for “legal purposes such as personal defense.” Personal defense baby. Personal defense from the guy breaking down your door or from the government breaking down your door. None of this namby-pamby “sporting purpose” hunting, target-shooting bullshit. Although I do love hunting an target shooting.
What’s it all really mean? First of all, the folks in DC can unlock their rifles and shotguns, and they can now own pistols. They can legally defend themselves in their own homes, who’d a thunk it? The people in Chicago and the suburbs will be seeing the light of day soon. Several lawsuits attacking those gun bans have been filed already. And courts like the 9th Circus…err Circuit, will no longer be allowed to run slip shard over the Constitution.
For the rest of us, even here in the Republic of South Chicago, not much will change. That’s good because, it’s now harder for the gun-ban freaks to change things. Those goof balls are on their heals today. I just got my daily newsletter from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Yes I get the libtard news letters, I even watch the Lauer in the morning. You gotta keep track of the loonies otherwise they’ll rule the ward.
Anyway I digress, Brady, the newsletter was titled “The Supreme Court Rules, Any Gun, Any Time for Any One”. So, they want people to think that the Court is arming criminals and the insane with machine guns, when the opinion clearly states that felons and the mentally ill are disqualified and the restrictions on machine guns are constitutional. Scare tactics 101, they got caught in a lie and tried to change the subject by saying that the sky is falling, which is another lie. Daily in Chicago said that striking down the cities gun ban would be like throwing out the legal system and reverting to wild west justice where disputes are settled by gunfights in the street-his words not mine. CNN had low angle shots from gun shows and spouted words like automatic, magnum and high capacity. The fear mongers are like chickens with their heads cut off. I can’t even muster my normal distain for these antics, I’m having too much fun watching the show.
I spent a little time yesterday, after the decision, lurking on the liberal web sites like Democrat Underground. You know, gotta keep track of the loonies. Well, spank my ass and call me sunshine, but those guys loved the decision. Not all of them of course but the majority of opinions was very positive. This just goes to show that a very small and very vocal minority wants to tell the rest of us how to live. These are the lemmings who think that the government is there to take care of us, give us free health care, food stamps and send the police when the bad guys come out. Guess what? When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.
I’m going to leave you all with something that past generations took for granted but seem to be lost on a good portion of the current population. The Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution does not grant us anything. We have those rights because we are citizens of the greatest country to every grace this planet. Think of it this way, the Amendments don’t allow anything, they prohibit the government from taking those rights away. The Constitution is not law that we must follow, it’s law that the government must follow. It’s like a line from a little letter that was sent to the King of England on July 4th 1776, “Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Have a very happy and safe Independence Day.

Excellent post! Very well stated. I am applauding if anyone can hear me over the keyboard.
And has anyone even wondered why, with a gun ban in DC, it is/was the murder capital of the nation?
Rob, you really need a blog of your own!

I agree! I can set one up for you!
Rob: I support the SCotUS decision, but your views on liberals are, um, batshit insane. With all due respect.
Nice rant!
What was that about batshit insane liberals? Amnisty for illegals, no ten commandments at the courthouse but muslem footbaths in public schools, open dialect with terrorist nations, assult weapons ban, zero tollerance, support the troops-stop the war, smoking bans,
redistribution of wealth thru universal heath care,
man made global warming, windfall penalties, P.E.T.A., Chicago, florescent light bulbs, Blagojevich, the fricking U.N., et al.
boy, I sure can’t spell when I’ve got a head of steam.
So, you’re calling a list of mostly reasonable things batshit? Oh boy, here we go. Yeah, that spelling was pretty bad, so I’m going to respond to what I think you were trying to say:
* Amnesty for illegals: McCain supports this. Then he didn’t. Then he did. Then he didn’t. Ad infinitum.
* No ten commandments in the courtrooms: Otherwise it would violate the wall of separation between church and state. This one is pretty obvious. We already have law books, and the Bible isn’t one of them. Maybe you should focus less energy on the Ten Commandments and more on outrage over the abandonment of the Bill of Rights.
* Muslim footbaths at universities: Are you really comparing a bathroom fixture at a university to the courthouse–which is supposed to be neutral–openly advocating a religion, thus completely negating their credibility and supposed neutrality? That’s pretty batshit. Here’s an idea, you Christians come up with some kind of lavatory facility you need to practice your faith, and we’ll put one of those in too. Until then, quit pissing in the footbaths, we know you’re doing it.
* Open dialogue with enemy nations: So we should just bomb the crap out of them? Did your good Christian values teach you that? It hasn’t worked so far, so what makes you think it will work now?
* Assault weapons ban: I don’t necessarily agree with weapons bans, but I sure wouldn’t want nuts like you running around with one.
* Zero tolerance: Not sure which ZT policy you’re referring to here.
* Support the troops/stop the war: So leaving them there to be blown apart by people we invaded over a stack of lies is what you call support? Again, that’s pretty batshit, guy.
* Smoking bans: This ought to be left up to the business owners. Both liberals and conservatives have raised rancor about this.
* Redistribution of wealth through universal health care: How the hell does providing health care result in wealth being redistributed? That doesn’t even make any sense. Nobody is redistributing wealth. Scumbag republicans and their brainless supporters must think it’s okay for a family of four with bleeding disorders to pay $30,000+ a month for life-sustaining medication, huh? Pretty shady, bub, let’s hope all your kids are healthy when your job gets outsourced due to the right-wing policy of unregulated free trade.
Don’t worry, when we join the rest of the civilized world by providing universal health care, you’ll still be able to drive your 32-cylinder monster truck (which oddly enough doesn’t have a scratch on it, proving why you need it so much) and live in your McMansions away from all the (don’t forget to whisper the next word) blacks, just like you do today. Believe me, you’ll still be able to hire illegal immigrants for a dollar an hour while railing against their very presence while they’re not around building your swimming pool. Sadly, governments can’t regulate hypocrisy.
* Man-made global warming: Hmm, thousands of scientists or fathead radio hosts and millionaire politicians… who should I listen to on this one… Gee, I wonder. It’s okay. Nobody is going to take away your right to drive a gigantic, super huge, fully-featured SUV everywhere, but I’m sorry to hear about your penis.
* Windfall penalties: Meh, not the greatest idea. But then again, your right-wing energy policies got us into this mess, and I don’t hear any sustainable ideas coming from your side of the aisle other than “help the oil companies make even more profits by opening up the coast and ANWR to drilling, which ought to lower the price per gallon by 10 cents over the next 20 years!” Genius!
* PETA: Bad example–everybody knows PETA is batshit insane.
* Chicago: My kind of town, Chicago is.
* florescent bulbs: I assume this is about the mercury? Again, I don’t hear any ideas coming from you Cons other than “you can’t violate my rights to abuse the environment and excessively suck up all the energy I can, thereby driving up prices for everybody else–and to hell with the consequences!” This is another shitty, scumbag ploy for Republicans to maintain the Status Quo by doing NOTHING. Honestly, when was the last time you heard any Republican give a damn about anything that had to do with environmentalism? Jesus, do you take pride in being suckered like this?
* Blagojevich: another bad example. Nobody likes Blagojevich except Emil Jones and a few crusty partisans in the Democratic party. He will not win another election.
* The U.N.: Outlived its usefulness and is now pretty much irrelevant.

*shakes head* Enjoy your ride on the failboat.
Just a couple points to make about the last reply.
McCain and Amnesty…I never mentioned McCain. McCain is a liberal in elephants clothing. Just because he’s a republican doesn’t make him a conservative. He’s proven that time and time again.
Footbaths at universities…Not universities but public primary schools (Minneapolis). Footbaths are not a sanitary concern. They are for washing before prayer, your separation between church and state should alarm should be ringing.
You Christians, your good Christian values…I’m agnostic. The point was that certain organizations will fight to have a 150 year old statue removed from a courthouse and turn around and coddle another religion. Because why, guilt?
Enemy nations…my bad, I meant to write terrorist nations. BHO said the he would have open dialog with nations who’s core belief is that all non-Muslims must die. It’s in their book. Diplomacy will work with rational leaders but you can’t reason against the word of God. Especially when every aspect of their daily life is tied to that religion.
Zero tolerance…the second grader who was expelled because he was wearing a Transformers shirt where the robot holds a ray gun. No guns in school=kick the kid out.
Man made global warming. Incomplete models and scientists working for grants. There’s one on the opposition side for every doomsayer out there. It’s like acid rain, remember that, we were doomed by the turn of the century. The earth is cooling, has been for a decade.
Stop the war…we’re over there, regardless of why, if we don’t stay to the end we’ll just have to go back later.
Redistribution of wealth/health care…sorry, I pay for mine I just think that if I have to pay for mine you should pay for yours. Having a child with a blood disorder is a tragedy and is not something that is a personal choice, however having children is. That something lots of folks should have thought twice about. Besides, I don’t want the government telling me who my doctor is, do you?
Rest of the civilized world…like Canada, where all the people with money come to the U.S. for healthcare.
My monster truck is 8 cylinder, has been in three different lakes, was covered in scratches then painted camouflage and is again covered in scratches. Soccer moms drive the cars you’re talking about, my utility vehicle is used for utility. It’s parked in a stand of pines at my hunting property.
Right wing energy policies…explain please. The only thing I can think of is the seasonal/regional formulation changes brought about by the environmentalist movement. Is ethanol the solution? A bunch of rich farmers on my mom’s side of the family are hoping that you think so.
It’s a tough question, I don’t have the answer but I tell you what isn’t the answer; coming up with punishments instead of solutions. Wind fall penalties would do nothing but punish companies that spend billions trying to find the energy solution.
If you think Exxon is making too much money, shut up and buy their stock. I did.
Assault Weapons/ I wouldn’t want nuts like you running around with one…One, one? You can feel safer because I have dozens. Hell my wife has two ARs of her own. And still to this day, Ted Kennedy’s car has killed more people than our guns.
To coin a phrase: if you can’t beat ‘em, delete their post!
Priceless.
