I Did It

Written on May 31st in Uncategorized

For the first time ever, I went to see a movie by myself. I saw Sex and the City all by my lonesome. It was a great movie and I’m actually happy that I saw it by myself. I cried numerous times and I’m not a cryer. The movie was awesome. So, for the first time in my life, I saw a movie by myself.

I Heart Memorial Day Weekend

Written on May 26th in Uncategorized

This has been such an awesome weekend and I really have to say that alot of it has to be because I’ve been able to spend it with the other half of Team Walker. For the first time in years, we’ve been able to spend the weekend together because I haven’t been working. We had the Peoria Jaycees scavenger hunt on Saturday which was a blast. Granted, I would have liked to have more than a three hour time limit, but we had a blasssssst. John proposed to JO at the end of the hunt, at the Heights water tower which was uber cool and romantic at the same time. Today (Sunday) we ran out and bought the super sweet steel cooler on a cart and then hit Borders for a couple of Deadliest Catch books. As we were leaving Grand Prairie, the dill weed next to me wouldn’t let me in the left turn lane, so we ended up at Gander Mountain. By the way, Gander is a very dangerous place for Team Walker. We bought the fish breader shakey thingy, a reel and rod on sale for $20, something for Rob’s bow and both our full year license for fishing, waterfowl and birds. Sweet. I also saw the coolest thing, which I’ll be going back to buy. It’s a cooler, shaped as a red and white bobber that’s waterproof. When Rob goes on the canoe trip, he can just tie a cord to the cooler and let it float. Plus, it’ll be super cool for the pool. I hate to say it but I think Rob has really got me on the nature kick. Who would have thought that a city girl, like me, would be loving and feeding birds and constantly on the lookout for the coolest camping/fishing/canoeing gear? Not I…

A Little Tact Please…

Written on May 23rd in Uncategorized

My friend and I got pedicures this afternoon. Trust me, I’m not an indulgent person. Rob has been begging me to get regular massages and I just can’t get over spending so much money for something that’s considered pampering. Even though my doctor has said the same thing and I feel bad for Rob having to work on the cement tundra that is my back. So, for the first time in six months, I’m getting a pedicure and all of a sudden this woman is standing in front of my feet and talking to the woman doing the pedicure. She proceeds to point out all the flaws in her manicure. So not appropriate. If you have a problem with your nails, please wait until my pedi is finished or wait until my nail specialist is up and moving around. How uncomfortable for everyone. Thank you. An affirmation that I’m only going to Roxy for all my mani’s and pedi’s. I shutter to think what would have happened should I have been at a massage appointment.

Blog-a-liscious Posting-Sound Off

Written on May 22nd in Uncategorized

We all have dry spells and then we all have a ton to say…
My friend Leigh once asked me, “If you could have dinner with any six people, living or dead, who would it be?” A very interesting question as it may or may not tell a lot depending on your answers. I would love to hear anyone’s answer to this question. Here are mine. I’m going to elaborate as it suits my needs. It may sound sappy but in my ultimate universe, here’s who I’d love to have dinner with: My mom (deceased), Rob’s mom (deceased), my paternal grandfather (deceased before I was born), Rob’s paternal grandfather (deceased before he was born) Rob, his dad and my dad. Think about the serious fun we would have. Talking prohibition, Al Capone, gangsters and family love. Of course, I imagine dinner ending with cigars and whiskey, not quite the lady-like thing, but hey, it sounds awesome. What else could I ask for? Of course, in reality, I would wish for a dinner with everyone I heart and admire, but I think it’s a pretty good start. And now it’s your turn…

Twenty one bags of mulch and we still have half a bed in front and the backyard to do. I mean really! What is that about?

More on Cooking

Written on May 22nd in Uncategorized

Today, was a banner day for Angie in terms of cooking. I have the chaotic kitchen mess to prove it. I may not be the tidiest homeowner, but damn it, my kitchen is usually pretty clean. Not right now. First off, I made Rob a Meditteranian tuna salad for lunch. Nothing too inspirational, I just substituted wasabi mustard for mayo and added kalamata olives, red bells, red onions and lots of seasoning. He seemed happy. I think I was looking for more of a crunch. Next, I tried a buffalo chicken dip with bleu cheese. I liked it, but next time, I’ll probably serve it with ranch to cool it off a bit. Finally, for dinner I made a roasted bell pepper cream sauce with shrimp and mushrooms over capellini. Good Lord, it was so time constraining with roasting the peppers and skinning them that it seemed to take for…ever. If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s any sort of cream sauce, but this dish really took it out of me. I added a ton of white pepper and fresh ground pepper, but the taste just wasn’t there. So, I added some hot sauce and that seemed to do the trick. I’m still not one hundred percent with it, but I’d rather do it with pasta so I can get it down pat before I use it for salmon or roughy. Just in case you were wondering, our dads’ are feasting famously on all the leftovers. Even if they don’t know what the hell they’re supposed to be eating:) Oh, and is it wrong that I’m seriously thinking about buying a chef’s mat so my feet don’t hurt so bad from standing in front of the stove for so long?

Eight Years

Written on May 18th in Uncategorized

This Tuesday will be Team Walker’s eight year anniversary. I have to say, I think I really did get him the best anniversary present, ever. Considering it has nothing to do with firearms, hunting, fishing or art. What can I say, I married a Renaissance Man, tried and true. Don’t worry, I’ll let ya’ll know the present after Tuesday. Tonight, though, we were blessed enough to be invited to an awesome wedding reception. The bride and groom got married a couple weeks ago in Hawaii and they had their big blow out bash tonight. It was perfect. The company was awesome, the dj was great, the food was superb and the atmosphere was rockin’. All in an island theme, of course. But, everything got me thinking about what really matters in life. Rob and I have been together for over ten years. That’s huge in today’s world. There’ve been some recent developments that kinda had me thinking about things and you know what? Not one thing matters more than my relationship with the other half of Team Walker, our pups, our family and our friends. Someone may work at a job for 25 years and get a watch (thank you Speed), but live that 25 years and see who’s next to you. If it’s that watch, I’d be a little concerned. So, although it’s only eight years, I’m going to celebrate like it’s the 50th. I mean, that’s what life’s about, right? Eight years baby!!!

Bonnie & Clyde

Written on May 15th in Uncategorized

So, Rob recently came into Fatherdom again. Our buddy Jason was looking for a home for his two geckos. Since I’ve mandated the Walker Compound as mammals only, they went to live in the terrarium at Rob’s office. Rob took an unscientific office poll and the consensus was that the duo should be named Bonnie and Clyde. They have since become the office mascots, for lack of a better name. They’ve become more and more loving as time has progressed. I’v yet too meet them, but Rob assures me that they’re showing all the signs of adapting well to their new surroundings. Clyde even licked Rob as he was giving him a chin rub today. They both arch their backs when stroked and “wag their tails” when they’re content. Most of Rob’s officemates have embraced the new mascots and take turns playing with them in their cubes. It just goes to show that Rob has an amazing effect on all animals, mammals or not. And I’m thinking that Bonnie and Clyde are going to live the Walker lifestyle that only a handful of animals get to experience. Oh, and if anyone has an in with a cricket broker, let me know…

Thunderstorms

Written on May 14th in Uncategorized

Like most dogs, pack Walker hates the thunderstorms. Sophie hides in the closet and Vito runs to the bathroom. The labs curl up inside the dog room and wait for the storms to pass. We got home tonight and Sophie was in the closet, in the rubbermaid box that holds all the scarfs and Chunky was in the bathroom. I always say that I taught the pound puppies to go to the bathroom in case of a storm. My heart-a-licious Labs were on a lab-o-licious heap in the dog room. The storms’ are over, and tomorrow we must water, the plants, the garden, and Rob…
