Coming Up…

Written on February 28th in Uncategorized

Monday is a big day for Angie and Ticketmaster. I’m trying to get tickets to both Jeff Dunham and Jimmy Buffett. Not that I’m too worried about the Jeff Dunham tickets. Alpine, Chicago and Indianapolis all go on sale at the same time. Instead of the normal shows at Tinley, the shows are going to be at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. After looking at the A-Z FAQ I noticed that one of the items you’re not allowed to bring in the park is an umbrella. WTF? Outdoor venue+summer concert= 100% chance of rain. At least if I’m around. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can get tickets this year.
Tomorrow’s the big Wing Off at the Holiday Inn City Center. Both Elwood! and EXIT are playing so it should be a great time.
Saturday, we’re going to try our luck at poker. We haven’t played in ages so I’m a little rusty. I just hope to not get hammered by the pros.
Sunday we may go see a movie but Rob has to fix the boat trailer. Again. This time something happened with the jack and the ground being frozen. I swear, one day our side yard won’t look like we live deep in the heart of camo country. Just because the boat and the blind attached to the boat is camo doesn’t mean our neighors can’t see it.
So, if you get a chance, I would appreciate any and all prayers to the Buffett gods for me.

I Must Have Done Something Right…

Written on February 26th in Uncategorized

I must have done something right because this morning, someone cleared my driveway and walkway. I’m pretty sure I know who did it and I can’t wait to thank them. Our friend has a snow removal/lawn maintenance company. I’m completely up for the service! Sold! It usually takes Rob a couple days to clear our walkway and you know 90% of my shoes are worn without socks:) It was awesome to NOT have a handful of snow in my shoes melting on the way to work and my pants soaked.

Good Call…

While I was initially hesitant about purchasing Bon Jovi tickets behind the stage, I shouldn’t have worried. The view was great and there were plenty of screens so you could see what was going on from pretty much every angle. Plus, it was kinda neat to watch what was going on underneath the stage at the same time. Of course, I’m a concert geek so that stuff enthralls me. I was able to take about ten minutes worth of video before my camera decided its memory had had enough of that.

Bradley plays its last home game tomorrow night against Rob’s Saluki’s. At least I’ve trained him well and he no longer roots for SIU when they’re playing and come to think of it, I don’t believe he has any more maroon.

Valentine’s Day

Written on February 21st in Uncategorized

Rob and I decided to go to the Hoffbrau last night for the Valentine’s Day dinner we didn’t have. For a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm, the place was packed. Good for them. We ordered a couple beers at the bar and were seated shortly afterwards. We talked about starting off with the nachos, since they have by-far the best nachos in town, but then I saw the smoked salmon appetizer and changed my mind. The dish comes with cream cheese, capers, onions, crackers and bread. I prefer a little crunch, but that’s just my personal taste. Rob and I both ordered the Thuringer platters, he got sauerkraut and mashed potatos while I got the spatzel and spuds. I highly recommend the super spicy mustard, it has so much flavor! It was a great dinner especially for hump day! I can’t wait to go back again and get the nachos.

Round Up…

Written on February 20th in Uncategorized

**While I was in the hospital, Rob slyly acquired a new pet. I know he’s been wanting a snake for a couple of months but we also agreed to a warm-blooded animal rule. So, I suggested he take the terrarium to work and keep it there. The gun magazines don’t have a warm-blooded animal rule so what better place? He bought a green tree snake which is very green and very snakey. It’s not really a “pick me up and play with me snake” so I think it should like its new home. He may even be an official mascot and be in some of the ads. So, see…he really didn’t have a reason to not TELL me about the snake. The terrarium has been out for for a few weeks and apparently I should just ASSUME that since a light is on, there is an occupant. My female mind doesn’t process things that way ding dong.

**Saturday is the big day. Melissa and I are going to see Bon Jovi at the United Center. Of course, the only tickets I could get my hand on for less than $200 a piece are behind the stage but I think it’ll be okay. It’s Bon Jovi and Daughtry. I think I can live without the ’show’. I have no idea about parking since I’ve always gone up charter coaches so if you have any suggestions, I’d gladly accept them.

**Next Friday is the 2008 Prairie Air Show WING OFF. I understand that absolutely EVERYTHING in Peoria is going on that day, but it promises to be a pretty entertaining evening. One of our favorite bands, Elwood! is starting the night off with their awesome acoustic stylings and EXIT is performing after the awards are presented. So far, participating restaurants include: VOP’s, Atlanta’s Wings & A Prayer, Kelleher’s Irish Pub, Hammer’s, Euro Jack’s, VOP’s, Hooter’s and Old Chicago. 2007 People’s Choice Winner TNT’s is not participating this year, so the title is up for grabs. Can Hammer’s win it back?

**If your not going to Satuday’s Bradley game, the Peoria Jaycees Bar Olympics at The Recovery Room or Bon Jovi at the United Center, KING ORANGE will be playing at Brogy’s in Sunnyland!!

Insight/Comcast/Whatever

Yesterday, I sent Rob to pay the cable bill and exchange the cable box we have in our bedroom for a new DVR box. I’ve had a gazillion problems with that particular cable box and it really pisses me off that I keep paying for services I can’t get. So, since Rob had yesterday off, I thought this would be the perfect project for him. I was wrong. It’s not a perfect project and I have no idea when I’ll get the new DVR box. First, Rob gave the bill to the customer service rep who seemed floored that we were paying the bill three weeks early. Okay… Then, he was told that due to the switch over, we couldn’t add any services or exchange boxes. Our only option is to make an appointment and have someone come out to the house and tell us what we need. So, instead of getting everything done on a paid day off, one of us will have to take a half day off and wait for someone to come to the house. I swear I recall hearing something about ‘Business as Usual’ and ‘Customers shouldn’t expect any disruptions’ etc.. Not really starting off on the best foot for me.

Lesson Learned…

Written on February 16th in Uncategorized

I get to go home today. It may not be until this evening, but I get to go home. I’m so excited to see the puppy dogs. It’ll be nice to have the big screen (did I mention how much I’ve missed it?). And a real shower with actual water pressure? Holy crap. I still vow to take it easy though. Four days in and not having pneumonia tells me I need to really watch it. I’m used to going and going until I absolutely can’t handle it and I can’t do that anymore. If it was serious enough for me to be in here for four days, I don’t want to be in here for anything more serious or life threatening. It’s just weird how one day everthing’s fine and the next day…

Cupid…

Written on February 15th in Uncategorized

I saw Rob for a few minutes yesterday. Despite still being sick and miserable, he managed to bring me lunch and a couple presents. He brought me “Gone, Baby, Gone” which sticks pretty closely to the Dennis Lehane novel (another of my new fiction addictions). He also bought me Rockband for our Playstation which should be a hoot considering a) we have no idea how to set up the playstation with the new flatscreen downstairs and b) I’m pretty sure he bought the edition for Playstation 3 not Playstation 2. It’s something I’ve been wanting forever but I really didn’t want to spend the money if Rob had no interest in playing with me. It’s called Rockband for a reason and from what I hear, it’s highly addictive. Thanks cupid!

Valentine’s Day…

Written on February 14th in Uncategorized

So, it kind of sucks that I’m in the hospital today but everything’s looking better today. I may be out as early as tomorrow but probably by Saturday. Tuesday night, Rob and I were in dog heaven watching the Westminster Dog Show. We were so happy that Uno won, what a cutie. We’re really not fans of the standard and toy poodles (unless you count Rhapsody in White from Best in Show) but they were pretty perfect by standards.

Rob and I usually always wait to celebrate Valentine’s Day since one or both of us always seem to be working. Plus, it’s kind of nicer celebrating later when the crowds are thinner and servers have more time to devote to their tables. Since we had such good luck with our kobe and prime steaks in Las Vegas, we had planned to grill a couple lobster tails and crab cakes…

If anyone was late in making reservations, I highly recommend going somewhere that doesn’t take reservations since your chances are pretty even of getting in when you wish too. And, it all else fails, we’ve always had really good luck with carryout from a few special places.

In the Hospital…

Written on February 13th in Uncategorized

I woke up early this morning to horrible chills and a fever. My doctor told Rob he wanted to see me to make sure I was okay. Honestly, I didn’t think I’d be admitted since I’ve felt so much worse before. But, my pulse ox was low and apparently I look as miserable as I feel. So far, the consensus is the flu since I had a temperature of over 101 which is HUGE for me. I normally run pretty low. Hopefully, it will be a short stay and we caught everything early enough. One bad thing is that there weren’t any rooms on the 4th floor so I’m on the coronary floor which seems pretty strange. Oh, and I don’t have a private shower. But, I do have wifi which I hope will help my sanity…
