Rob and I spent the weekend in Chicago with our friends. Just to try something new, we decided to take the train. Granted, we were an hour and a half late getting to Chicago, but I’d definitely do it again. It was really comfortable and we watched The Simpson’s Movie and Shrek III during the ride. Brent’s folks are living in Florida but they still have their house in Batavia, so that was home base for the weekend. Friday night, we went to Al Capone’s Hideaway and Steakhouse on the Fox River. While we ordered (and paid for) prime steaks, I’m not sure that’s what we got. I was a little bitter that the lobster tail we ordered wasn’t deveined either. In the end, it really didn’t matter because we had a great time with our friends. Saturday, we had lunch at Lou Malnati’s which was awesome. Someone should really start another franchise in this area. Then, we went to the Premium Outlet Mall. I was in heaven since they have Kate Spade, Coach, Ferragamo and Armani. Rob found a leather coat but at $900, we thought we better pass. I found a great purse at Michael Kors that I love but of course, I have to get a new coat and shoes to match…
Saturday night, we drove into the city. We had dinner at Twin Anchors on Sedgwick. The place has a lot of character and tons of history. Our waitress said that they had just filmed a scene from the new Batman movie there the week before. Since I still can’t eat ribs yet, I went with the pulled pork which was absolutely fabulous. Everyone else ordered the ribs and said they were to die for. After dinner, we went to The Green Mill, another spot with tons of history and beautiful architecture. Instead of jazz, they had live gypsy music. And it wouldn’t be Chicago if we didn’t get shushed for talking as we were leaving. I guess they take their gypsy music pretty seriously up there. Finally, we stopped by The Spot. Mikey knows the owner and we had a blast. It was great coming from the packed Green Mill and then having our own area upstairs at The Spot. Once we got back to Batavia, we stayed up until about 4:30am playing Catchphrase. We had so much fun this weekend but it’s really nice to be back home. When I picked up Sophie and Vito, I realized just how nice it was. They didn’t leave our side all night.

Welcome back - your blog fan club missed you. :) We took the train to Chicago once before also - just for the fun of it. The train was delayed which wasn’t great, but it was nice to not have to worry about parking, etc when we got to Chicago. I would definitely do it again.

I believe “gypsy” is considered a racial slur. That’s all I’m sayin’.

I used to take the Amtrack from Manhattan into Long Island, from Albany to NYC, and from NYC to Chicago, quite often. Loved it. Train is the best, most romantic and fun way to travel. Absolutely. Good food too.
