Just a Few Things I’ve Noticed Lately…

Written on November 29th in Uncategorized

* Does anyone else find it odd that Dollar Tree is taking over the old Chi-Chi’s building? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about rehabbing existing buildings, but a Dollar Tree?

* We had a fabulous dinner at Po’Boys last night with a group of people. The new menu is alot more extensive and the food was fabulous! Since I’m still on soft food, I highly recommend the mac and cheese!

* No matter how many chances I give a place, if by the tenth chance nothing’s changed, it’s time to forget about any sort of redemption. Yes, I’m talking to you Circuit City.

* The Children’s Hospital of Illinois is having it’s annual Radiothon with 93.3 the Drive all weekend.

* Ticketmaster sucks or I’ve just had the worst possible luck purchasing tickets this week. The first pair of tickets I bought was for Bon Jovi at the United Center. The only tickets available were behind the stage, unless I wanted to spend massive amounts of cash for upper, upper bowl on Ebay. Today, they added a third show. Yesterday, I bought Seinfeld tickets during the pre-sale. Off the bat, I couldn’t get any four tickets together. I also couldn’t purchase any floor seats at the higher price. So, now I’ve got one pair in the first balcony and one pair in the second balcony. Seriously, almost $300 with service fees and crappy seats. It hasn’t been a good week.

Getting Into the Holiday Spirit

Written on November 26th in Uncategorized

Apparently Rob took to heart what I said about cleaning before any decorations go up because the house is getting pretty clean. Just a few more rooms to go and we’ll be all set. Yesterday, he spent most of the day cussing and throwing things. Yep-he was installing the new flat-screen and surround sound. If I know something will piss me off that much, I’ll have someone else do it. I think 99% of males lack that particular gene.
Soooo…I’ve been trying to figure out which movie is my absolute favorite holiday movie. I think I have to go with Christmas Vacation, followed by A Christmas Story and ELF. Does anyone agree or disagree?

Holidays?

Written on November 20th in Uncategorized

Holiday weeks are usually something to look forward too…Unless you work retail, in a restaurant or hospital. My good friend has five days off while I’m wondering how the heck I’m ever going to have time to make a couple green bean casseroles before noon on Thursday. Who knows? I also have a ton of laundry to catch up with but I guess that just means we know what Rob will be doing with his time off, right? Then, it’s time to completely clean the house from top-to-bottom to get ready for the Christmas decorations. Nothing irritates the crap out of me more than Christmas decorations up when my house isn’t clean. Let’s face it, once they’re up, the motivation to clean lowers exponentially. Not this year. While Rob does the majority of decorating, this year, we’re both doing the cleaning before one single thing goes up. So…to all those people that don’t have to work Friday, good luck and enjoy the sales. To all those people that do have to work Friday, we should have a beer together.

So excited!

Not in a Jessie Spano from Saved by the Bell way, but excited none the less. Our dishwasher and stove are FINALLY being installed today! This is the reason for the happiness. I can’t wait to actually use it!

We Could All Use an Assembly

Written on November 14th in Uncategorized

I read several accounts of yesterday’s assembly at Woodruff High School. I was most impressed respect toward drivers and police was stressed. As I’ve related numerous times, it’s almost more normal for me to get flicked off for driving down a road rather than have a pedestrian or group of people move out of the way. I also enjoyed that several students said they thought their parents could learn something as well. Once again, it all starts at home. Last week, marked the second week in a row that I encountered the same problem on Embert-located next to Peoria Christian School. Having lived next to churches all my life, I expect living next to a school would be a similar experience with cars traveling along the roads rather frequently. So it continues to suprise me that I have a huge problem on this street every time I use it. Last week, a boy of about 8 and a younger boy about 4 were in the middle of the road. While the younger of the boys walked over to the side of the street, the older boy waited until my driver mirror was even with him to take one step in the opposite direction. Besides the obvious question of, Why the hell weren’t the kids in school? I’m wondering who taught them that this street was theirs and theirs alone? Those are some young kids to already lack respect for automobiles as well as drivers. Where’s their assembly? Not everyone is out to get them. I just want to drive down a road without getting glared at, flipped off or ignored. I really would like to know what’s going on in their heads that they hate drivers so much.

It’s Been Awhile…

Written on November 12th in Uncategorized

Rob’s turn as flamboyantly gay Dumbledore made everyone think he was santa clause or a wizzard, so I’m not sure it worked very well. Oh well.

Along the lines of Are You Kidding Me?
Last week, we purchased a few appliances from a big box store. While I ordered the stove and dishwasher I’ve been wanting, I also wanted to order a new washer to go along with the new dryer I had just purchased. As Rob does the majority of the laundry in the household, I reluctantly followed his advice that we didn’t need a new one. Me, I just wanted a set that was purchased together, at the same time that may or may not match. All of our washers and dryers have been given to us by various friends or family members so a matching set would be desirable. Saturday morning had Rob up early pulling out the dryer, the stove and the dishwasher. Of course, their was a load in the washer since it seems to be going nearly 24 hours a day. As I was getting to run errands, he called me into the laundry room. I walked into a room filled with smoke from the washer belts. Yep, the washer was done. We got on the phone to see if we could just order the matching washer over the phone before the truck came but alas, the truck had already left. Is it sad that I already expect things like this to happen? It doesn’t even phase me anymore.
We’re still waiting for the stove and dishwasher to be installed so the kitchen is a complete wreck at the moment. Good thing I’m just using the blender at the moment. Oh well. Five more weeks. I hope. We are talking about Angie luck here.
