Look What I Got!

Written on September 28th in Uncategorized

This is about the coolest thing I’ve ever bought. Don’t worry, I didn’t pay that much for it. Although, my joy at seeing it every day is priceless. I’m really not the one to make spur-of-the-moment purchases, but, Rob convinced me that we had to have it. I agree. It somehow makes up for the raging back pain I’ve been in all week. My doctor gave me pain killers and muscle relaxers so I’m hoping they’ll start to kick in.

Since my dad works second shift we try to get together Saturday or Sundays for breakfast. We usually switch it up between Gebby’s and Bob Evans. We sometimes rotate between all the Bob Evans, depending on what’s going on the rest of the day. We’ve always enjoyed our experiences at the East Peoria and Glen Hollow restaurants. Seems like the one in North Peoria by Super Walmart has it’s share of problems and we rarely go there. Unfortunately, we did go there and had the worst experience. Later in the day we went to Sterling Family Restaurant and had the best experience. Two similar restaurants in one day with polar opposite experiences.

9 AM (Bob Evans-North Peoria:
We’re seated and asked about beverages. We both order coffee.
9:15AM
Coffee arrives (the coffee spilled on the silverware wraps on the tray, rendering the napkins useless)
9:25AM
Waitress takes our order
9:50AM
Still haven’t had a coffee refill. Seriously?
10:05AM
Finally have coffee refilled when food is brought out. I ask the waitress for more napkins and the girl filling my coffee says, “We’re all about customer service.” I chuckle.
10:06AM
There’s an eyelash on my egg
10:12AM
I finally see the manager walking by and ask her to remove the plate because there’s a hair on the food.
10:25AM
The manager brings back the check having removed my breakfast. We paid for Dad’s food and our drinks.
10:27AM
And we’re out. I still left a $3 tip. Sometimes I hate that I used to be a server.

After breakfast, we did some serious shopping. Remember, I haven’t eaten so by 12:30pm, I was soooooo hungry.
We stopped by Sterling Family Restaurant and sat in the back (insert Presidential Visit comment). I looked on the board and saw the special was chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Hello.
12:31PM
The server brings our drinks and chats with us.
12:32PM
I order the chicken and noodles.
12:40PM
I’m eating
12:41PM
I ask for a to go order for Rob.
12:55PM
We’re out

I seriously left our waitress an $8 tip on $14 because I was so happy.

Stupid Allergies.

Written on September 25th in Uncategorized

So, I’ve been grappling with allergies all week. I knew when my right eye decided to tear for an entire day that I was in trouble. Last weekend, I consumed my fair share of Benedryl and Claritin. Yesterday, I started a mad sneezing spree to which I counted at least 18 sneezes. Seriously. Is that really necessary? I think on that 18th sneeze, I must have been bending down and did a jerky move because now, I have a pulled muscle in my back. Have you ever had such a crazy pain that you can’t really pinpoint its location? It’s really bad because laughing leads to coughing which leads to tears. Damn those allergies.

Lazy Weekend

Written on September 24th in Uncategorized

After working seriously late Friday/Saturday morning, I never left the house on Saturday. We had grandiose plans of either going to Oktoberfest or the St. Phil’s Fall Festival. Instead, Rob and I grilled steaks (from Alwan’s, yum!) and green beans along with some of the last peppers from the garden, opened a bottle of wine and watched parts of various movies. Just our favorites, like Reno 911, Dodgeball and 9to5.
Sunday, we had lunch at Schooner’s (love the turkey burger thank you) and did some laundry. Well, Rob did laundry. I attempted to watch Hollywoodland but the stupid cable channel kept going out. We went shooting and then ran to Khaki Jack’s for the game. It was pretty packed so we left at half time and ran over to JJ Ryan’s to see Joe Mama. Bars are always more enjoyable when you can sit down and have a little space. But, it’s a new week and the lazy weekend is over.

Taking a Break…

Written on September 20th in Uncategorized

We went shooting again yesterday but the spot where we were wasn’t a big mecca for the dove. The spot a bit further down did a little bit better for Clint and Jim. I did shoot two more though. We’re going to take a little break before we go back out. Tonight is the F Scott’s Staff Reunion Party which should be alot of fun. We see certain people more often than others so it should be great getting together again. Saturday we’re going to Oktoberfest and Sunday we’ll go shoot before the Bears-Cowboys game.
Happy Hunting!

Question

Written on September 19th in Uncategorized

I know it’s a little while away but I’m trying to help Rob get his Halloween costume in order.
He’s going as…
Steve G from Ghosthunters. Think about it… He looks just like Rob. So, he’s growing his side burns out which is fantastic since we have two weddings to go to before Halloween. Does anyone have any idea what tatoos he has? I know he’s got ink all over but I’m trying to find a picture so Rob can work on it.
Any help would be appreciative!

Day Number 2

Written on September 19th in Uncategorized

We’re going “shooting” again this afternoon. It’s nice to be outside with nature considering the only nature I’ve been experiencing is walking outside my house or being with my dogs. Sad, but true. No fishing or golfing this year. Even sadder. So, even if I don’t shoot anything it’s still fun. And yes, I did get to watch the Big Brother finale even though their was a Cub’s game on. I’m cool like that.

Today’s the Day…

Written on September 18th in Uncategorized

I make my husband’s dream come true. Yep, I’m going dove hunting with Rob and Jim this evening. So, while I’m not too confident on my ability to actually hit a bird, I am excited about shooting. Obviously, the A-R is a bit much for dove so I think I’m shooting a 20 tonight. Honestly, I never thought that a true city girl such as myself would ever be in a field shooting dove. Regardless, Rob will get to tell all of his clients/friends that I went hunting with him. It really is all about the little things. The fact that I’ll be missing the season finale of Big Brother didn’t even cross my mind. Really. It didn’t.

Dog Park Approved by Peoria Park Board

Written on September 13th in Uncategorized

It’s about time. When our friends come to visit they usually ask, “Where’s the dog park?” Our response is, “The backyard.” In the future, we’ll be able to show them that Peoria has in fact joined the times. Honestly, because our backyard is so large and our dogs are well socialized with each other, we probably won’t be taking many trips to the dog park. I think it’s a great idea for anyone with one or two dogs and anyone who doesn’t have the luxury of a huge fenced-in yard. Our friend’s been in Europe for three weeks. Apparently, in Barcelona, there are dog parks all over. He’s been home sick from his dog so he’s been going to the dog parks. He said he’s been getting his puppy fix and has met some really great people. I’m sure the same will be said for Peoria’s dog park. I hope the fundraising goes well and dog owners really get behind the project.

I’m So Thankful…

Written on September 11th in Uncategorized

that the maniacal woman I worked for six years ago decided to let me go the Friday before September 11th. If she hadn’t, I would have been in an office without windows and no contact with the outside world. Instead, I was up and getting ready for a dentist appointment. I remember Rob insisting that I stop and get gas because he was sure the prices would soar. I thought he was nuts but I filled up anyway. Later that day I talked with several friends who had waited for hours in line for gas, some paying as much as $6 a gallon. I think about not being able to be with our friends at that time and I am SOOOOO thankful that I wasn’t working. BTW, the stint of unemployment lasted a week. So, to The Maniacal Women Who is Certifiably Bat Shit Crazy… THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU!
