The Weather is Here…

Written on August 31st in Uncategorized

For the past few evenings, Rob and I have taken advantage of the beautiful weather. We’ve been sitting on the side deck with the labs locked in the doggie room. Sophie stretches out next to me and Vito plops down in the lawn. He never moves, just looks around, smiling-you know how dogs give you the grin that lets you know they’re a-ok? Heaven help us if a bunny would run in front of him, he’d probably have a heart attack and die on the spot. It’s really nice to be able to unwind, relax and think how lucky you are. When you can do it among the madness and craziness around you, it’s even better.

Weekend Review

Written on August 27th in Uncategorized

Friday night we saw Rachel’s Hippo (with special guest star Jim Potts) at Johnny Viggs. The place was packed but it was a great time!

Saturday was Mary and Gordo’s wedding which was a blast. The fact that the servers at Forte refused to let Rob through the line to get barbecue sauce for the table was priceless. Because Buffet lines often require prison guard/military like demeanors.

We spent Sunday afternoon at Erin Feis soaking up the environment and hanging out with all our Irish buddies.

Birthday Weekend Drama Recap

Written on August 23rd in Uncategorized

My birthday weekend seemed a little exaggerated since Brent was in town which meant (say it isn’t so) going out every night. Thursday, I worked and then we went to our favorite watering hole for the weekly drawing. Friday, we had a most excellent dinner at the Hoffbrau House which, as our friend remarked, as never changed over all these years. Next, we mozied over to BG Karoke in Bartonville for a bachelor party. Who knew there were dirty lyrics to I Got You Babe? Honestly, I think the guys could have held up a little longer with the karoke thing had there not been SO MUCH country. But, you’ll have that-it was a pretty fun time though. The last stop of the evening was at the favoring watering hole. The four of us played BuckHunter for what seemed like hours but had a blast. According to my digital camera, there was dancing and lots of it. Suffice it to say, said favorite watering hole doesn’t get much dancing but when it happens, the whole place is dancing. Priceless memories with photographic evidence!! Saturday, I worked in the morning and then ran errands most of the afternoon. A group of us sat outside on the patio at Po’ Boys and had a blast. Then, after a few cocktails at Casa De Walker, we headed on down to see Joan Jett. We timed it perfectly as they literally took the stage when we got there. We saw a bunch of people we knew and she just rocked!! Besides my friend essentially getting hit on by a girl with her husband, who eventually fell down on her face, it was kind of uneventful. Although, I have two sources that tell me that several members of The Blackhearts were arrested later in the evening/morning. I guess they were celebrating my birthday weekend too. Maybe a little too much. Sunday, while the guys were at the races and Brent was out boating, I had my dad and aunt over for lunch. After lunch we braved the rain and ran some more errands. After the races were cancelled and boating became dangerous, Brent and Maximus decided to leave early to avoid the torrential downpours. And that was the weekend. Since I spent my birthday in bed (damn the humidity) I did watch Zodiac with Robert Downey Jr and Jake Gyllenhal. I wouldn’t recommend it so much. You know how everyone was sceptic about Titanic because everyone knew the ending? It’s kind of the same since the Zodiac killings remain unsolved. So even though I had to cancel my little shindig at Sullivan’s, I had a great birthday because I was with great friends. And now we know the drama doesn’t even go away for a birthday.

I Need to Win…

Written on August 22nd in Uncategorized

Okay, I don’t really need to win anything but I just keep feeling like no matter what I do to avoid problems (technical or not) and anxiety isn’t working and I can’t win.
For example: Over the weekend Brent brought Maximus to visit. Max looks like a small pony but is a Rotweiller/German Shephard mix. He’s a very sweet pup but ungodly large. We all know that Vito aka Chunky Monkey gets extremely anxious around dogs he doesn’t know, especially giant ones. So, we sent Vito over to Grandpa’s for the weekend so he wouldn’t have anxiety about Max and I wouldn’t have anxiety about a possible doggy show down. Yesterday, after Gary’s surgery, Rob came home with Chief. Chief had been way too excited and could hinder Gary’s recovering so now he’s at the Walker compound. He doesn’t like being cooped up, especially in a backyard (with or without other dogs) and has jumped the fence a couple times now. Rob let him out of the kitchen at lunch only to have Yogi go nuts and start the doggy show down. For now, Yogi’s with Sophie and Vito in the house and Rob may have a broken pinky from trying to break up the doggy show down. So, you see, it’s about time for me to win.

So much to tell but I don’t know where to begin. I did spend my birthday (Monday) in bed all day and night. Damn the rain & humidity. Asthma sucks.
I promise to recap soon.

the house is clean and then…

Written on August 16th in Uncategorized

We spent the past couple of days cleaning the house so our houseguest doesn’t think we live in absolute squalor. We finished up right before Top Chef last night which was a plus! I kept walking through the house admiring the new air freshners I’ve purchased. I mean with our pups and Brent’s giant ’son’ Maximus does it really matter? No-but-candles can cause fires so air freshners are about the only thing we use. So-we went to bed awfully happy with the house. Then, I got out of the shower this morning to see a fresh stain on the carpet. Can I ever win?

Birthday Plans? Not Really.

Written on August 13th in Uncategorized

So, my birthday falls on a Monday this year, which pretty much sucks. The day after my birthday Rob’s dad is going in for surgery on his shoulder. We have a friend coming into town Thursday-Sunday. I’m working Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Friday night is a Jaycee event, Saturday night is Joat Jett on the riverfront and Sunday Rob and the guys are all going to the TT Races. Between my family, Rob’s family and our friends, there’s usually about three different events for one birthday. I don’t think that’s going to happen this year though. Bad timing I guess.
