To the guy that called up Markley & Luciano to say that the downtown bars have no business being open until four:

Believe it or not, not everyone works a job that enables them to socialize with their friends after 5pm. A great many people enjoy downtown bars before 4am but others go out of convenience. Some people get off work extremely late/early. Some people like to have the option to see their friends after 2am. Not EVERYONE is falling down drunk or on a bender. And, why does it bother you if it doesn’t effect you? Once again, if you don’t like it, show it with your dollar and don’t go. I, however, support downtown establishments since it’s been Rob and I’s bread and butter for many years. Our friends and co-workers continue to earn their living by working downtown so we continue to patronize those establishments.

I agree, Angie. However, I do NOT agree with those who say the downtown bars should be open until 6. Nothing frightens me more than drunks leaving downtown at the same time school busses hit the roads.

I was listening to that yesterday and almost called in with pretty much the same argument. My feeling is that the establishments on Water St are not really ‘clubs.’ I think it’s easier to sit around and talk with friends down at Martini’s than it is at Club Reign. It would be a nice alternative for the folks that want to spend time with friends instead of hanging at the meat market clubs.

Trying to have a conversation in Reign/Tomcats/Al’s/whatever that other place is without being bumped into or having a drink spilled on you is impossible. Plus, there’s enough Polo Sport to make anyone sick. I’m definitely at a point in my life where Martini’s is the spot. I always feel massively underdressed(shorts, collared shirt, sandals), but the only time I go inside is to use the bathroom, so it really doesn’t matter.

the downtown bars are a GODSEND after you’ve finshed your crappy ass shift at pepperoni’s (the one that was in pekin, not peoria…the peoria one i would LOVED to work at). god, i miss those days. of course, i’m still a 2nd shifter, so i still am thankful for bars that don’t close at 11.
