Saturday evening, after work, we met up with Elwood and some friends at Kelleher’s. We stayed for about an hour and a half as the place was filling up and we felt bad taking up a big table. We decided to run into Sullivan’s. I never park in the church parking lot, but I did, knowing we weren’t going to be there long. We caught up with everyone we hadn’t seen since F.Scott’s closed-Rob even got his last paycheck which was a pleasant surprise since when we got to the car there was a fifteen dollar parking ticket for parking in a private lot, courtesy of the City of Peoria. My only issue is that the city issued me a parking ticket for parking in a private lot. When someone parks illegally at my office, it’s our responsibility to handle the situation. How does the church get the city to issue tickets? I’ll pay the ticket tomorrow and probably won’t think about it ever again but OMG I was fuming Saturday night. The thirteen year streak of not having a parking ticket has been broke. Good thing Rob got that paycheck, right?
Angie: did you not read the sign before pulling into the private lot? Which would you rather hve-a fifteen dollar fine or fity dollar towing bill? If you play you have to play-better luck next time you fringe on other folks property so you can have a drink.
I shall ask God’s forgiveness for my crime. And the minute someone from Grace Presby.takes up half my driveway to park-I’ll make sure to call the city and ask them to write a ticket. Here I thought I’ve been the nice guy all these years of living next to different churches and never getting too upset when I’ve been blocked in or had to maneuver my car within a millimeter of someone who chose to take up 90% of my driveway. I thought I was being the better person by not freaking out or calling a tow company. The Lord works in mysterious ways. As an adult, I’m perfectly aware that I got a ticket and like I said, I’m paying it-no problem. And thank you very much for the lecture! Preciate it.
why is it you can park on the street after 6 (and on weekends) but not a stupid lot? i have parked in that particular lot so many times i’m lucky i’ve never got ticketed or towed.
is that damn church even open?
“if you play you have to pay,” say i think that just might be Grace Presby. ’s slogan. is that guy their pastor?
That bites. But I guess the city code allows it:
Sec. 28-274. Parking vehicles on private property.
(a) No person shall park any motor vehicle on private property without the consent of the owner of the private property. The city shall have no duty to tow a motor vehicle parked in violation of this subsection.
Still doesn’t make it right. Most other private property owners would have to call a towing company. What’s up with this selective enforcement?
With all the real crime in Peoria (i.e., murders), I can’t believe the police are using manpower to patrol private parking lots. I just can’t believe it. Chief Stetsengard, or whatever his name is, should get his priorities straight.
I guess it’s just another reason to avoid downtown.

geezzzz, I hope Rob’s last check was more than $15!!!!! LOL
Yeah, that stinks getting a ticket…the lot isn’t even in use at that time of night, and as Brick said, don’t they have better things to do?? Wasn’t it that same Saturday night that they found someone stabbed to death on NE Jefferson???
I’ve parked in that lot a million times, and I’ve never even seen a car with a ticket on it, let alone gotten one. Shitty luck, Angie.
