And..It’s Back!

Written on December 30th in Uncategorized

The banner mentioned in my previous post has proudly made its return to Downtown Peoria’s Visions Bar! I’m not sure how long the banner has been up, but today is the first day that I noticed. Just in time to ring in the New Year! I’m curious if they’ve seen an increase in their business since hanging the banner. I’ve never been in the bar but I’m friends with a group of guys and gals that like it there. If they’re aiming for attract the straight boys-I wonder if it has worked.

Bella Bluecipher

Written on December 16th in Uncategorized

Little Miss Bella has decided that she doesn’t like the cold weather. She has started the annoying habit of barking relentlessly the minute I get home from work. Barking, however, is not enough of an attention getter. She must also jump as high as she can and throw herself against the screen door in the dog room. The dog room is an addition that we made to the house. We built a room with cement flooring, large bay windows, a door and a dog door. The windows let the sun in and the room stays pretty warm. This is not good enough for the spoiled one. Granted, I did bring this on myself by completely spoiling her when she was on bed rest. Although the room insulates the barking so the neighbors don’t hate us, I’m sure they’re wondering what the heck is going on at the Walker house. Although she’s the tiny Lab, that sucker can jump higher than any other dog-even Sophie. And Sophie’s been known to jump on the kitchen counter to get to FUDGE. I wish there was a Dr Phil for dogs.

It’s Cold Outside

Written on December 14th in Uncategorized

So, my poor car battery is dead. That sucks. I know I needed a new one, I just didn’t think the thing would give out on me. I’m at the mercy of others when it comes to gettin’ around town. Rob has to work at the restaurant tonight and tomorrow night. Looks like I won’t be able to get a new one until Thursday. That’s two nights I could be out Christmas shopping. I really can’t complain because at least I have a vehicle-a pretty decent one at that. That means I’ll be cleaning for the holidays. Oh joy! Oh joy!

Where in the world….

Written on December 14th in Uncategorized

Where did the flag that was hanging in front of Visions go? After all the hubbub about the thing last week, it was obviously an attention getter. But, where did it go? Is it lying on a beach in Miami? Is it Christmas shopping at the Mall of America? If anyone knows what happened to it, please let me know!

Cool, Fun Site

Written on December 9th in Uncategorized

My new favorite site is: http://www.chthonicionic.net/whatsthatsong/
You can choose what band or artist you want the quiz to be about. I’ve chosen Buffett, Dead or Alive, Depeche Mode, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Toby Keith and 2 Live Crew. Pretty fun although loading times takes a while. Alex, I’ll just put it out there that Basque pop music probably isn’t an option-don’t know for sure though.

Another Rant about Martha

Written on December 8th in Uncategorized

I feel like I’m the only one that recognizes Martha Stewart is a convicted felon. Apparently Marc Burnett-ye of Survivor, Apprentice, The restaurant and EcoChallenge fame-is developing a “new”daytime show withMartha as the host. Once again, we’re rewarding people for their illegal actions. Hey, commit a crime and we’ll make you rich and famous. I understand she was rich and famous before-but you get the idea. Just because the crime wasn’t violent, doesn’t mean it wasn’t wrong. Won’t be watching that one. I’d rather watch OJ’s show-at least he’s not a convicted criminal.

Free Speech

The new flag Vision’s is flying is certainly attracting attention. The bar, located next to Sullivan’s on Main Street in Peoria, is a well patroned gay/lesbian bar. The rainbow flag is proudly displayed at all times. The new flag boasts “Peoria’s Hottest Lesbians Work Here.” I can’t wait for my brother and sister-in-law to come up from Virginia for the holidays with my nieces. Hopefully, the little tykes will see the flag and ask me what a lesbian is. I mean c’mon, they’re 4 and 6, we need to have that conversation.
Hey, the courthouse is already lit! Everyone, make sure to bring your out of town friends and family downtown this holiday season! Vision’s has Peoria’s lesbian bartenders!

Why do I venture out of the house?

Written on December 6th in Uncategorized

I spent a good 20 hours working this weekend, so not much to chat about. I did make the mistake of venturing to KMart Sunday afternoon. (Horrible pun intended) They had a great sale, bed in a bag, even King sized for $49.99. Can’t beat that. They also had a poker game you can plug into a television. Perfect for the non-computer literate family members. I searched the toy department several times for the game. I found a manager and we searched a couple more times. He suggested the electonics department and I told him I’d just go and thanks for looking. The lady in the electonics department bit my head off and told me it was in the toy department. I explained that the manager and I both looked and couldn’t even find a spot where they would have been. She just kept ranting about the toy department. Alrighty then. I went to the check out and apparently, I interrupted the check out girl from her nap. She did the entire transaction with her head in her hand. She couldn’t even lift her head. I asked her if I should go to the front for a rain check and she didn’t respond, just looked blankly at me. I waited in line to get a rain check. I’ve never gotten one before. No idea if they call you or send a letter or what. The clerk was yelling across to some of the cashiers while I was filling out the card. She just grabbed her copy and left me at the counter. So, three rude workers at KMart and Christmas isn’t until the 25th? Good luck to anyone stepping foot in that place.

The awesome service of the day award goes to Bed, Bath and Beyond. All the workers were so polite and helpful. By the way, I got the same poker game their for $7 cheaper than KMart had advertised.

Has everyone seen the Black and Decker jar opener? It’s perfect for the older people on your Christmas list. I’ve checked everywhere and Walmart has them for $26. I’ve seen them as high at $40.

Jimmy B on TV

Written on December 1st in Uncategorized

Jimmy Buffett will be on the Regis and Kelly Show tomorrow morning at 9:00am. He’s making the promotional rounds to chat about his new book, “A Salty Piece of Land.” If all goes right, even with the hectic weekend, I should have it read by Monday. If anyone’s read it already, please let me know!
