The New Museum

Written on October 13th in Uncategorized

I was perusing the different ideas for the new museum. I’m disappointed that there’s nothing about Peoria’s distilleries. We need to embrace our city’s past. Peoria was pretty well known for all the alcohol it produced. Any one else agree with me?

I say cheers to that proposal.

Cities most embrace their historic heritage.

Heck, we are so proud of the distilleries than even today, we drink and toast and party. A museum should display something about that bond between the city’s past and its modern day inhabitants.

Not to mention there’s no mention of the Shelton Brothers, the gangsters who competed with Al Capone for control of Peoria’s underworld. Bernie Shelton was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Parkway Tavern. The small brick building still stands across the street from Hunt’s restaurant on Farmington Road.
