“True Life”

Written on October 25th in Uncategorized

Over the weekend, I was watching MTV’s True Life. I couldn’t believe it when they showed a kid from Peoria. Mitch is in his 20’s and has two girlfriends. Neither knows about the other. He spends pretty much an equal amount of time with both of them. They also don’t know what he does for a living-he runs a couple porn sites. It showed a chick coming over to pose on his bed. (yuck) Anyway, I was cracking up! He was talking about how they lived in 2 different towns. From what I could gather from the scenery the two towns were Peoria and Spring Bay. He was actually walking though Northwoods, holding hands with one girl. Hello???? Sure fire way to get busted. People from Spring Bay can find themselves shopping at Northwoods. In the end, I think he has to come clean because one girls “guy” friend showed up at a party he was at with the other girl. My advice: Never Cheat on Anyone in Peoria. You always get caught.
If you ever see this episode, you have to watch it!!

Dave Attell

Written on October 25th in Uncategorized

Saturday night, about 10 of us worked at the Dave Attell show. It was at the Madison Theatre and sponsored by Brewster’s Comedy Club. The Peoria Jaycees let them use their liquor license in exchange for funds back to the chapter. Jaime, Brian, Jim and I carded people waiting in line. I think it’s hysterical that for an 8:30pm show, no one shows up until 8:25pm. Wonder why there’s a line? Everyone was in a great mood! We hung out until after the show, getting our pictures taken with Dave etc…He bought the Brewsters employees and the Jaycees shots of Jaggermeister. Very cool!

St. Louis Bound

Written on October 22nd in Uncategorized

We may be going down to St. Louis during the “Series.” One of the radio stations I work for wants to do a live show before Wednesday or Thursday’s game. I think it would be great to be in that atmosphere. I’m sure I’ll definately have some good stories to tell.

Politics

The race between Sloan and Schock is getting downright mean. I really don’t want to vote for either of them. Over the weekend, we had our 4th visit from Aaron’s campaign volunteers. That seems a bit excessive for our neighborhood. Between Sloan taking credit for not allowing criminals to buy guns-to Schock not believing a woman has a right to choose, I want another candidate.

Historic Peoria

Written on October 19th in Uncategorized

Back to the subject of Peoria’s illustrious history of making alcohol. It would make a fantastic, hands-on exhibit at the new museum. The people I’ve talked to love that part of Peoria’s history. It would be a shame if this multi-million dollar project didn’t include, Bill Dennis says, “the seedier part of Peoria’s history.” My in-laws house was one of three, with connecting tunnels built by a gangster. One for him, one for his bodyguard and one for his accountant. Peoria was a stomping ground not only for Chicagoland gangsters but Southern Illinois gangsters, as well.

We recently went on the Historic Peoria Trolley Tour. If you ever get a chance to do this-you won’t be disappointed. Except sometimes the tour director reads descriptions and your in front of a house two blocks further down. Here’s the most interesting story we heard on the tour. We were traveling down main street from Bradley. We passed the automotive place on the left. “A couple years ago, there was a robbery at this store. The fleeing thief, jumped into what he thought was a getaway car. It was actually a police car. The authorities held him for a little while. They later wished they held him longer. It was Charles Manson. He had an apartment on High Street. Of course, that freaked everyone out. But, if you ask everyone what they remember from the tour-that’s the main thing. John Wayne Gacy was President of the Springfield Jaycees and Charles Manson lived on High Street.

Drugged

Written on October 18th in Uncategorized

So it seems I’m not the only one who has been feeling like crap lately. Rob claims it’s because the mold levels are so high. How does one even detect the mold level? I’ve been taking some pretty serious medicine-so I’m feeling a little better. I took the medicine last night before going to bed-without thinking that it has an expectorant. I was up all night coughing and Rob-by association was up all night as well. Ooops.

The Peoria Jaycees Haunted House kicked off this weekend out at Expo. There were a few mishaps Friday-opening night. The fog machine smelling like urine was a pretty big one. Somebody beating the crap out of my dummy and stealing his Bears hat was not cool. Rob making little kids have accidents in their pants-probably not something he should be so proud of. God Bless my friend Melissa for helping us out Saturday night. We were so short handed that we barely had enough people to cover each room. Everyone stepped up and the house actually ran pretty smoothly. Well, long enough for the Illinois State Jaycees judging team to walk through. And, if the drunk middle-aged woman who needs to see a dentist is reading this, please don’t make a habit out of dropping your pants and mooning the high school kids.

The New Museum

Written on October 13th in Uncategorized

I was perusing the different ideas for the new museum. I’m disappointed that there’s nothing about Peoria’s distilleries. We need to embrace our city’s past. Peoria was pretty well known for all the alcohol it produced. Any one else agree with me?

I saw the Bloomington Subway Bandit’s sketch on tv this morning. He looks very familiar. Almost like a buddy of ours. But, I know like two people in Bloomington and they’re both girls. The shooting that was on Russell in Peoria the other night, my friend lived a couple houses down a few years ago. It is way to small of a town. It seems like I’ve been saying that alot lately. It seems like half my worlds are colliding this month. I can’t complain…that’s one of the things I love about Peoria. But, usually I’m pretty good at separating areas of my life.

Barked in the Park

Written on October 11th in Uncategorized

Sophie had quite a nice time yesterday at Bark in the Park. She wore her bikini and her lei. Colleen brought Maggie May. Maggie and Sophie quickly re-bonded and were begging us to let them get their paws printed. They both got to meet Trixie and Brody. Maggie did get snapped at by a itty-bitty yip yip dog as we were leaving. She was a bit traumatized. Sophie is still napping from the excursion.

Scream

Written on October 7th in Uncategorized

I’m working on the “Scream” room for the haunted house. Last night I put up glow in the dark masks everywhere. I’m working on a CD that will have clips of the voice from the movie along with a telephone ringing. Of course, I have to have an older telephone-preferably rotary. That’s proving to be more difficult than you can imagine. I would really love to have a dummy with a letterman coat-tied to a chair to be “Steve.”
