Vito “Monster” Corleone is 7 years old. The loveable boxer/sharpeii mix has fawn and white colored fur and a speckeled undercarriage. I brought him home from the vet exactly a year after I brought Sophie home. I thought that Sofie needed a playmate since college was becoming more demanding. The week he came home, he went to the vet and they found his ears were puffy. They were actually filled with blood, which they drained, and sewed his ears together using buttons. Vito had to wear “THE CONE” for 2 weeks. Very defining time in his life. He was learning how to go up and down stairs and he was learning that I wasn’t going to abandon him. Two very important things to consider about “THE CONE.” He would come barreling down the stairs to me, only to catch the cone on a snag in the carpet. He had a hard time looking around because his vision was impaired with the cone. He soon took to laying between my legs and feet.
I believe any dog that has ever worn “THE CONE” will forever be able to spot another dog who has also worn “THE CONE.”
Vito has never been one to scavange garbage cans. That’s not saying he won’t sniff around if you leave things out. I walked into the living room when he was about 6 months old, only to find him with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey stuck to his snout. He has forever since, been dubbed Chunky. Some feel this is mean. (He does in fact have a glandular problem-which we are working on.) Some would even call him Husky. But the vet assistant that thought he had mange-because he’s heavy and his hair wouldn’t grow back-that was wrong. I will keep you updated on his progress with the new thyroid pill.
The last thing to know about Chunky, is that for all intents and purposes, he is a cat. Probably a result of “THE CONE.” His favorite past time is to sit in front Channel 1 (the living room window) Channel 2 (the sunroom) or Channel 3 (the Bedroom window). He barks at leaves, at the wind, at acorns, anything. And, it’s taken him about 5 years to warm up to Rob-but he has.
Vito is cool, he likes me.
